Cedar Rapids: A Great Place to Call Home

Cedar Rapids recently was named as the most expensive zip code in the state of Iowa. With a median home price of $450,000, it’s a great, relatively affordable city to live in with so much to offer!

Let’s take a look at why Cedar Rapids is such a great place to call home!

Many residents of Cedar Rapids take time to engage with the outdoors considering the city is home to 74 parks, swimming pools, and four beautiful golf courses. The Cedar River is another excellent place to spend time boating and fishing when the weather is warm, in addition to the Indian Creek Nature Center, with more than four miles of outdoor trails.

There is also an excellent downtown farmer’s market that is one of the largest in the Midwest. With more than 200 local vendors, residents flock to the market on Saturdays from May to September for fresh produce, flowers, meat, local crafts, and more.

In cooler months, the arts and nightlife add to the quality of life that Cedar Rapids residents enjoy. The Cedar Rapids Museum of Art continues to draw in patrons of the visual arts, while the Paramount Theatre and Iowa Orchestra offer national and international touring performances.

If you’re hoping to see a concert or sporting event, the U.S. Cellular Center has you covered. Residents love watching minor league baseball games and cheering on the Cedar Rapids Kernels (a minor league affiliate of the Minnesota Twins) and Cedar Rapids Titans, an indoor professional football team. A beloved local attraction is Czech Village, which celebrates the roots of the Czech, Moravian and Slovak immigrants who helped to settle the city. Here, you can visit several retailers and restaurants that celebrate the unique heritage.

From a livability perspective, Cedar Rapids really does have something for everyone. The housing market is historically stable, and because of the superior local economics, it’s an excellent place for entrepreneurs to launch their businesses. Many of the local jobs are rooted in agriculture, and the city’s job market remains strong.

Those with school-age children benefit from an excellent education system. Cedar Rapids public schools have been nationally recognized, and two small liberal arts colleges call the city home, including Mount Mercy University and Coe College. Additionally, the University of Iowa and Cornell College are both nearby too.

The quality of life in Cedar Rapids is truly unmatched, so it’s no surprise that people continue to move here and fall in love with everything it has to offer. Many of the citizens are actively engaged civically, the town has a lively social media presence.
