Summer Home Maintenance Checklist

Winter is behind us, and summer is here! With the changing of the seasons comes a few vital home maintenance items that you might want to spend some time accomplishing. And, while these tasks are important, we also understand that the last thing you want to be doing on a beautiful, sunny day is chores around the house.  So, to make this process as simple and quick as possible, we created a handy checklist. Going through these items will ensure you and your family are healthy and happy in the warm, sunny months ahead.

Give your AC Some Attention

This is probably the most important item on our home maintenance checklist for your Iowa City Corridor home. Think of this unit like your car – it needs to be tuned up to prevent any unnecessary breakdowns. The tune-up should involve checking refrigerant levels, ensuring the fan is working and changing out the air filter. These quick tasks will not only ensure you stay cool this summer, but also help keep your energy bill low and pollutants out of your home. On a similar note, if you have, clean them with a damp rag. Again, this will be a huge help if anyone in your home has allergies.

Take a Peek at Your Roof

Annual roof inspections are critical, but it also doesn’t hurt to do this when seasons change. After colder temps, rain and snow problems can arise. The benefit of taking a quick walk around is that if there is a small problem, you can attend to it prior to it becoming a bigger one.

Spend a Few Minutes Cleaning Gutters

Summer is a great time to check gutters at your Iowa City Corridor home. Why? Because after seasons that can entail wind and snowfall chances are that there’s probably some debris in them that needs to be removed. This process will prevent any leaking or clogging that can add up quickly in costs.

Take Inventory of Windows

Making sure your windows are in tip-top shape will not only cause your home to look good, but also keeps outdoor things out of your home and helps save on your energy bill. Make sure windows are secured and don’t have any gaping open areas. Ensure that the weather stripping is also in good condition. If you want to clean them while you’re at it, take a toothbrush to get to any hard to reach areas.

Get Your Pool in Summer Shape

Chances are you didn’t use your pool much this past winter, so it’s probably ready for a little TLC. To keep it running in great shape throughout the months, take some time to clean it up, check the water levels, make sure the pumps are working as they should, and sample the chemical balance. If you’re feeling motivated to step up your pool’s performance even further, take a look at energy efficient pool pumps. They do the job just as well, but will help in cutting down your electric bill this summer. Extra tip: If you are adding chemicals to the pool, make sure you don’t dive in immediately afterward. This will ensure your suit and skin is safe from the chemicals.

We hope that this handy checklist helps you get through your summer maintenance tasks quickly and easily so that you can enjoy all of the beautiful summer days ahead. Have questions about building a custom home in the Iowa City Corridor? Please contact us. It’d be our pleasure to help you out.
