Using Your Zodiac Sign to Drive Home’s Decor

I have to admit something: reading my horoscope is a guilty pleasure, and it’s been that way ever since I started noticing them in magazines as a teen. It’s fun to see what the universe has in store…right, wrong, or somewhere in the middle!

It got me thinking: could our zodiac signs actually drive the decor styles we are attracted to?

Fire, earth, air, and water are the four elements in astrology that help drive the different zodiac signs. Fire signs (Aries, Leo, and Sagittarius) are creative, bold, and charismatic, while earth signs (Taurus, Virgo, and Capricorn) are grounded, loyal, and excellent at accumulating wealth. Air signs (Gemini, Libra, and Aquarius) tend to be sharp, rational, and social, while water signs (Cancer, Scorpio, and Pisces) are sensitive, intuitive, and highly imaginative.

Keeping all of that in mind, I think there is a definite way that our zodiac sign and corresponding element play a role in the design aesthetic that we are attracted to.

Aries, for example, tend to be very competitive, so it’s not uncommon for them to spend a tremendous amount of time on curb appeal. After all, you never get a second chance to make a first impression.

Tauruses are generally super dependable, so you may find them gravitating toward warm and cozy design styles that exude stability.

For Geminis, their active imagination may draw them toward a more complex style of home, like the Craftsman. With many different materials, architectural elements, and an inviting aesthetic, a Craftsman home can really fit the bill for this sign.

Cancers tend to be very imaginative too, and as a water sign, they are often attracted to beachy, airy vibes.

Leos, another fire sign, might lean towards a more bold and ornate architectural elevation. They love being the center of attention, so their homes often take on a life of their own as a conversation piece.

For Virgos, keeping things neat and in order tends to be a high priority. Colonial style homes are perfectly symmetrical, which is something a highly analytical Virgo can certainly appreciate.

Libras tend to be very rational, so having a well-built brick home that can withstand the test of time may make sense for this air sign.

For Scorpios, having a vivid imagination certainly plays a role when it comes to design. You may find them gravitating towards more wild design elevations like Victorian that has a lot of charm and details.

Sagittariuses tend to be straightforward and no-nonsense! So, when it comes to design, they tend to stay right on this same wavelength.

For Capricorns, making a great impression is essential. Grand designs may appeal to this earth sign, like a beautiful Georgian style brick home with picture-perfect details.

Aquarians are sometimes a bit mysterious, so a great architectural elevation is the midcentury modern. Lines in these homes can be asymmetrical, and design choices often take on bold and unconventional colors, patterns, and more.

Lastly, Pisces! With a love of the past and a sense of nostalgia, they often express their sensitive side through romantic design styles. Natural textures work well for this water sign and can help them feel right at home.
